I am a feather duster 我是雞毛掃

Updated: Jun 18, 2020

I was never as passionate about coaching as some of my peers. It was happenstances to me. Whenever the opportunity came, I grasped it. Whether it was learning from the experienced teachers/experts, or serving the community via coaching.

After awhile, I noticed that I kept receiving similar feedback from my coachees. They said they obtained clarity after releasing different kinds of deep intense emotions, seeing their blind spots and/or gaining the courage to make a personal choice to work on their own fixations. Then I realized that I am a feather duster!

It has been a very touching and grateful journey. It's not rare for strangers burst into tears in their first coaching session regardless of their age, gender and background. It's not unusual for me feeling their pains and fears and even struggles when facing themselves.

I am inspired by my coachees for their courage on self discovery, their compassion for themselves and others, and their determination for personal breakthrough. So I wrote the following poem in Chinese and then in English.

《我是雞毛掃》

抹去心中塵

回歸到自然

智慧從心起

真我往外行

何謂塵?塵者,情緖、性格盲點、執著也。

I am a feather duster

removing the dust deep within

back to the nature

listen to your heart and wisdom blossom

here comes your true self

dust: emotions, blind spots, fixations

Suggested practice

  1. take a moment to reflect on what you have been doing and how your work has been impacting others and the environment - you may have a better understanding of the value of you and your work

  2. practise for short periods of time and do it frequently (時間短, 次數多)

  3. make it a habit, and share your experience with family and friends
