Last week when I was happily finishing up a bowl of noodles, I found a very tiny piece of wet printed paper sitting in my bowl. I was surprisingly calm and asked the waitress to remind the kitchen to be careful as they might get into trouble next time if it was a demanding customer. After awhile, the waitress came to me apologizing again and said the manager had agreed to give me a discount as appreciation and so I could keep my cash coupon that I was about to redeem. It seems to be a double bonus.
To me, what I treasure more is how I realized that I have made huge improvement on my resilience that I had been working on for a long time by practicing mindfulness. I am grateful.
In the past, I always tried to be better according to my own standard and demand the same from the others. I always knew what I should and shouldn’t do and have the same expectations of the people around me. I always worked hard and was very persistent because it was the right thing to do. The movie “No Reservations” reminds me of my old days in the workplace.
After practicing mindfulness and learn more about "sustainability", I started appreciating the beauty and power of nature, and feeling grateful. Very often I encourage my coachees to experience the nature and be inspired.
I accidentally found Louie Schwartzberg's beautiful and enlightening video "Nature.Beauty.Gratitude" which I highly recommend to everyone.
Suggested practice
practice gratitude by completing the sentence of "Today I am grateful for ..." in the morning to start your day
