Negative imagination can become “worry” and “fear”. Positive imagination creates the possibility of hope.
Clients often come forward with a “lack of hope” and a “crisis of imagination”. What is needed is a counselling approach that is consistent with the challenge that is being presented.
This is what I kept hearing from Professor Norman Amundson in his Master Workshop Series that I attended recently.
I was so excited to have the opportunity of learning from him not only his Action-Hope Model and career development facilitation skill sets but more importantly how he carried himself and connected with the participants with his compassion and generosity. He reminded us to live with abundance – give more than we receive.
It was such as pleasure to meet Jeanette, Professor Amundson’s wife. She is a kind and wise lady and she encouraged me to coach more caregivers.
Dr Alex Ng, Associate Director of CUSCS was also in the picture.
I had the privilege of being helped by Professor Amundson to further explore and extend my metaphor “I am a feather duster”. I was deeply moved when I heard “You are more than a duster. You go deeper into the clients and it’s almost like a healer …”
It reminded me some of my coachees’ feedback (published on LinkedIn Recommendations):
🌻 Amy appeared when I was facing one of the most difficult moments in my life.
🌻 Her questions are reflective and go deep inside my heart.
🌻 Amy brought me to wonderland of my own inner-self, where I was free to explore items inside while she was carefully watching and giving kind reminders.
🌻Amy is one great mentor who led me passed through my darkest period, guided me on understanding relationship at work and personal life, my life gained a 180 degree of change since I took the career course offered by Amy.
🌻 After the sessions, I felt as if I went through a detox emotionally! Thank you Amy!
🌻 She uses her magic feather sweep to remove the dust on my career path as well as motivate me to move forward. I hope to show you my moonshine with dramatic cloud in front
