It's a personal choice ...

Updated: Jun 18, 2020

We may have our favorite restaurant for different reasons - food, design, space, service, value for money etc. I go to my favorite restaurant for all above reasons plus one more thing - loving energy. The place is always filled with laughter of friends, couples, parents and kids. I always have the benefit of enjoying the loving and joyful energy sent through the sound of laughter, giggling, relaxing body language, the care and respect flowing from deep within when they look at each other. And the food, it's a bliss as I could feel the passion and blessing from the chef in each bite.

But it wasn't like that when I first visited the restaurant. Then I realized that things changed the day when I put down my mobile. To be exact, I forgot to bring my mobile one day and so I paid more attention to the environment and the food.

Nowadays, there is a huge challenge worldwide on excessive mobile use and the possible increase of anxiety levels. While there have been suggestions of banning or silencing mobile phones in restaurant, a restaurant in Hong Kong Cafe 330 is promoting mindful eating.

So whether we use technology to improve the quality of living or we let technology shape our lifestyle and well being, it is a personal choice. No matter what, it's never too late to be creative and integrate mindfulness practice into our daily life for our peace of mind.

"Mindfulness is awareness that arises through paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgementally." says Jon Kabat-Zinn.

Suggested practice

  1. practice mindful eating, mindful walking, mindful shower or any activity of your choice

  2. practise for short periods of time and do it frequently (時間短, 次數多)

  3. make it a habit, and share your experience with family and friends
